Matt McDermott

Matt McDermott (B.A. ’00) is a litigation partner in the Des Moines law firm BelinMcCormick, practicing principally in the areas of complex business litigation and white collar criminal defense.  As part of his practice, he is devoted to providing pro bono assistance to indigent persons.  In recognition of his work in this area, he received the Volunteer Lawyers Project’s Outstanding Volunteer Award in 2009.  Matt has served as the President of the Iowa State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division and he is a past member of Iowa State Bar Association's Board of Governors and its Administrative Committee, and he currently serves on the Bar’s Judicial Administration Committee.  In the community, he served as board president of Iowa’s largest homeless shelter and he is on the board of the HOLA center, which provides services to the Hispanic community.  Matt received his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 2003.
