The Many Faces of Africa: Democracy Across a Varied Continent by Joel Barkan appeared in the summer issue 2002 of the Harvard International Review which was devoted to a review of the state of democracy around the world. Other contributors included, Fareed Zakaria of Newsweek, Graham Allison of Harvard, Adrian Karatnycky of Freedom House and Gerardo Munck of the University of Illinois.
