Politics, Voting and Elections/Political Behavior, State Politics
and Policy, Direct Democracy, Race/Ethnicity, Information Technology
and Politics. Sample Publications: Coauthor (with Daniel Smith)
of Educated by Initiative: The Effects of Direct Democracy on
Citizens and Political Organizations in the American States
(University of Michigan, 2004) and Virtual Inequality: Beyond
the Digital Divide (Georgetown University Press, 2003 with
Karen Mossberger and Mary Stansbury). She is also co-editor (with
Todd Donovan and Shaun Bowler) of Citizens as Legislators: Direct
Democracy in the United States (Ohio State University Press,
1998). The book received an outstanding (O) rating for books published
in 1998-1999 from the American Association of University Presses
for exceptional content. Her article have appeared in the American
Journal of Political Science, British Journal of Political
Science, Journal of Politics, Public Administration
Review, Political Research Quarterly, Political
Science Quarterly, Social Science Quarterly, American
Politics Research, Urban Politics, Women and Politics,
Comparative Political Studies, Party Politics,
Representation, and Government and Policy. Her
forthcoming book (with Karen Mossberger and Ramona McNeal) is entitled
Digital Citizenship: The Internet, Society and Participation
(Cambridge: MIT Press). Tolbert is the General Program Chair (with
Taeku Lee, UC Berkeley) of the 2008 Midwest Political Science Association
Meeting.
