Undergraduate Advising

Advising Prior to Registration

Early Registration is scheduled for November 16-20 and November 30-December 8. Check ISIS for your registration time. You may make schedule adjustments on ISIS after your assigned registration time up until 5:00 PM on the day prior to the opening of classes. Once classes begin, all registrations and changes of registration must be processed in person through the Registration Center (30 CALH).

Authorization to register will be automatic for those who have declared political science as their first major. You will not need to pick up a registration form, nor will you need a four-digit code to register. In some cases, the department may need to authorize you to register (i.e., if you are not currently enrolled or if you have taken a semester off). If you encounter any difficulty registering, e-mail carole-eldeen@uiowa.edu. Be sure to include your student ID number in the e-mail.

The department encourages you to meet with your advisor. Check ISIS for the name of your advisor. You can find faculty office hours on our web page. If your advisor's office hours do not accommodate your schedule, contact him or her to schedule an individual appointment.

Your registration time is calculated as follows: Days 1-3 of registration are for seniors with 90 or more earned semester hours. The remaining days are for juniors, sophomores, and first-year students. You are assigned registration times according to the total number of hours earned.

This checklist in PDF format may help you see the classes required for the degree in political science. If you would like to consider earning an emphasis area, you may print this application form. Emphasis area applications are due anytime before you officially apply for degree.
